3507 ProCip Reciprocating Compressor Transmitter

Protect your reciprocating equipment with the specially designed 3507 Recip transmitter!

Key Benefits

  • Galvanic isolated loop
  • Small size, suitable for multiple units in space limited areas
  • Connects directly to a PLC and/or plant DCS
  • Low cost
  • Buffered outputs for analysis

The Model 3507 ProCip reciprocating machinery transmitter is the most cost effective method of measuring the destructive forces related to the vibration in reciprocating machinery. Impact

monitoring can be defined as "the shock waves created when the rod load changes

direction." This is when excessive clearances are abruptly closed. A bell creates

impact when the clapper hits the bell. This analogy works for reciprocating

machinery. Just as the repetition rate of ringing the bell, has no influence on the tone

of the bell, the running speed of a recip has no effect on frequencies generated by

impacts. A bell continues to ring between strikes because it is designed to propagate

the ring. A recip tends to sound like a "thud" or a "clank" but is a ring that is

severely dampened. Some impacts are dampened so severely that they are not

audible. There are normally several components connected together and they all

tend to ring at different frequencies. This is generally at frequencies above 1,000

cycles per second.

The 3507 ProCip transmitter is a specialized instrument and will only accept a

standard 100mV/g transducer input. If a different type transducers used, please

contact your local GTI representative with your application. All special filtering

should be noted at e at the end of the 3507 part number with the appropriate filter

type and range i.e., 3507-100--HP 2Hz.ME

GTI Reciprocating Machine Rod Drop / Rod Runout Meter

With the new, portable MD2005 Series portable reciprocating compressor meter, the end user can quickly and accurately assess the operating condition of their reciprocating compressor.

OVERVIEW -

The model MD2005 is a portable, battery operated device, used to monitor rod drop and rod run out.  An LCD digital display is provided for each unit.

This is a simple device to use. It requires a minimum of one probe, mounted on the packing case flange, as near as possible to perpendicular to the compressor rod.

This may be on the top or bottom of the rod depending on the location of any oil lines that may penetrate the packing case flange.

If other equipment makes a vertical mount difficult, then try to maintain a position as close to vertical but no more than 25 degrees off of top dead center.

TOTAL ROD DROP -
By combining both, a number more representative to the actual movement on the rod is obtained. This is accomplished by calculating the measured rod drop change base on the base line data and adding the measured rod run out to that number.

ROD DROP -

Rod drop is the average position of the rod thought out the stroke of the machine. The movement of the rod (rod run out) is filtered out. In a long stroke machine this can cause large errors in the true rod position. In short stroke machines these errors are small.

Logging of the number obtained  is very important. As probes are never set exactly the same from probe to probe, a base line must be established to compare future readings.

The rod drop information is filtered out.  The result is opposite for rod drop. Short stroke machines run out is a small number compared to the over all rod drop.

In large stroke machines the display is a direct relationship to ring and rider band wear.
